FAQs:

  • Do I have to live in River Forest to play on the Rapids? No. Any players who live in or attend school in River Forest or surrounding communities are welcome.
  • Do your players come primarily from one school? No. We believe that the diverse composition of our teams is a strength. Our players come from the following schools: Oak Park River Forest, Fenwick, Trinity, St. Ignatius, Elmwood Park, Morton, and Lyons Township.
  • What is the game schedule? Each team will play 10 games in the Fall (5 home games in River Forest and 5 away games) on primarily Sundays. The teams will also play indoor Winter soccer at the MAX sports center in McCook.
  • Where are your home games played? Our home games are usually played at Keystone Field in River Forest which has lights.
  • Will the team play during the Winter season? Yes. We plan to field indoor teams for all interested players. Commitment to indoor soccer is not required for the Fall season.
  • How many teams will be fielded? We expect to field minimally two teams. We anticipate a U15/16 team, and a U17/U18 team. We will consider fielding more teams based on tryout numbers.
  • What kind of training will Rapids players receive? Gavin Richards is the Director of Coaching for our Girls program and will be the lead coach for our high school girl’s teams. Gavin, who holds a USSF national soccer coaching license and a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, is an experienced youth soccer coach. He played semi-pro in the UK and has been coaching club and high school soccer since 1994 in California, Nevada, Florida, and Illinois. He has been a Rapids coach since 2003. Gavin will be assisted by other similar Rapids coaches .
  • When do you practice? Our teams practice twice a week during the Fall and once a week during the Winter. Last year practice was usually held in the evening under the lights at Keystone field to accommodate high school academic and sports schedule. We will hold a pre-season camp on August 9th-13th from 8 – 10 am which will end with a pre-season tournament.
  • Do you accept players who are playing other Fall or Winter sports? Yes! We have been successful in accommodating players who have other high school sports commitments. These players are asked only to attend practice once a week during their other sport’s season. Our evening practices help the players avoid conflicts with our sports’ practices or games.
  • Do your players make their high school teams? Our players have been very successful in making their high school teams. In 2008, all of our players who tried out made their high school teams. Our players were on the OPRF Freshmen A & B, Sophomore and Varsity; Fenwick JV and Varsity; Trinity Varsity; St. Ignatius JV and Varsity; Elmwood Park Varsity and Morton Varsity.
  • What is the cost? The player fee for the Fall/Winter season is $950. This fee covers coaching, Fall and Winter league fees, a fall tournament, equipment and club overhead. The fee does not include uniforms. We strive to keep our fees as low as possible to ensure participation by interested players. We have limited financial aid for families who are facing financial hardship. Financial aid inquiries should be made to Bob Roscoe, Rapids High School Girls Program coordinator.
  • Who are your parent volunteers? Each team has a team manager and parent assistant coach. The U17/U18 parents are Rich Schurr and Phil Tencate. The U15/U16 parents are Carlos Torres and Mark Witt.
  • Whom do I contact with questions? You may call Bob Roscoe, Rapids High School Girls Program coordinator, at 847-722-8736 or email at bob_roscoe@rfrapids.org

What our parents say:

  • I actually think our geographic diversity is truly a strength. We are not just the off-season training squad for some high school’s varsity program staying just below the radar of the IHSA rules restricting such activity. Nor are we a for-profit corporation taking parent’s money so that a select few get priority in coaching, facilities and opportunities. I support the Rapids because I believe that my daughter is getting the opportunity to achieve her potential while having fun and gaining self confidence. She has also gotten to know a great group of girls from various communities- girls she will meet on the playing field, enhancing the sportsmanship aspect of the game and her enjoyment. Last fall we were able to field 2 teams of girls that had not played with each other and really gave them a challenging season that helped them improve tremendously. I think the girls’ success on their respective high school teams reflects that. I am proud to be associated with the Rapids. - An Oak Park parent
  • I am very grateful that Rapids was willing to work with my daughter’s sports schedule. She played field hockey in the Fall and couldn’t devote the time that other clubs demanded. She had a great experience with Rapids and was able to make her school’s varsity team. -An Oak Park parent
  • My daughter was asked to play with her high school’s recommended club team, but she chose to play Rapids because she liked the group of girls on the team. The girls are from several schools. They are girls that my daughter wouldn’t see otherwise. Her high school has accepted her choice because her Rapids team plays at a very competitive level and her skills have continue to improve. -A River Forest parent
  • Rapids is a great value. I checked the player fees at other clubs just out of curiosity. I was surprised how much more expensive essentially comparable programs are. - A River Forest parent
