Team Website Tutorial
Team managers/webmasters - here are a few pointers for the team website creation. Start by logging on: Locate the login button on the right side of the red bar on your team website.
Then, use the Secure Login button and enter the provided username and password in the new window that opens.
Tabs on the top:
Content - most of your work is in here
Design - changes the look of the whole site - colors, pictures on top, button sizes, etc. - not very essential to get you going
League - we can't use that - although a very powerful feature, one would have to incorporate ALL games from ALL teams in one's division to get that set up correctly - way too much work! so I would suggest to leave that alone.
Users -
Website Users - that's where you set up the access for your parents - if your website displays private data (email address, etc.), here you can make sure only your parents can see that info. Set up the users with username/password as you see fit and relate that setup to your parents. That way only logged in people with user access can see the contact info.
Settings -
General - design things - not very essential to get you going
Settings -
Access/Links - that's where you hide or show individual pages of your website and the order that they appear in
Settings -
File Manager - when you upload files, like pictures or PDF files, that's where you can find them
Now to the
Contents Tab in detail - when you click on Content you will see the following tabs on the left hand side
Home Page - I display a
Google calendar
to show all practices and games (including directions). I have worked on the U9 Boys Black and U15 Girls pages, if you wanted to see a few things that the system can do.
Schedule/Results - again, this only works if we had a league set up - can't use this feature
Standings - same problem
Stats - same problem
Custom Pages - that's the tab I use most often to get around the whole League issue. We still want to be able to display schedules, results and standings. You can create any content with Custom Pages - it is pretty powerful. As a quick example, here are some ways to show results and standings - first for girls teams (for boys teams click here):
Create a new custom page by clicking on New - give it a title - I chose Schedule
Then click on the last icon in the top row (looks like this: <>) - we're going to work with HTML code, but notice all the available tools for things like placing pictures, writing, style sheets, etc...
In the window that opens, we will paste the code that can be found on the
IWSL website
. Locate your age group and division and find your team. Then click on the bottom where it says: "Would you like to show a schedule...."
Copy that code and paste it in your Source Editor (looks something like this):
Click OK and Save on the next page.
Next, we will create a Standings webpage.
Create another New Custom Page and title it Standings.
Click again on the last icon of the top row (<>). Then go back to the IWSL page and click on Division Games
On the next page click on: "click here to show division standings on your site" - copy the code from the following page and paste it into the Source editor and save it.
Now we make sure the created pages show on your website: Use the top tab
Settings -
Access/Links on the left side
and make your pages visible:
Now on to the boys - NISL doesn't provide easy web code to place their data on team websites. I chose to work with iframes to display the NISL page with my son's team standings on it.
Create a new custom page by clicking on New - give it a title - I chose Standings
Then click on the last icon in the top row (looks like this: <>) - we're going to work with HTML code, but notice all the available tools for things like placing pictures, writing, style sheets, etc...
In the window that opens, we will paste the code that can be found on the NISL website . Locate your age group and division, find your team and go to that schedule page. Then copy that web address. Use the iframe code below, but make sure to replace the web address with the one of your son's team (looks something like this):
Click OK and Save on the next page.
The only thing that's left is to
make sure the created page shows on your website: Use the top tab
Settings -
Access/Links on the left side and make your page visible:
